Artist Annie Wan Lai Kuen, graduated from the Polytechnic University, completed advanced ceramics certificate program. Then, She obtained her BA and Master degree from the fine arts department of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. She is currently working as Associate Professor at the Academy of Visual Arts of the Hong Kong Baptist University. The creation world of artists usually establishes a causal relationship with real world. There are artworks such as ‘Zan Baak Fo’ and ‘Fragile book’ series , in which audience are required to have savvy about the found objects, original materials or books’ content, in order to grasp the depth of the artwork subject. The former is arrayed both tangible and intangible via commodities and ceramics copies, arousing subjects like value, consume, memory; The latter breaks the conventional techniques of ceramics practice, provoking more philosophical rumination based on the fade-away of books to the regeneration of ceramics books. From the foundation of casting mould, shrinkage to slab building, Annie is good at thinking through the skills and materials properties of ceramics, to immerse into the conceptual creation. In both sides, artist is pondering on the essence of ceramics from art creation.
